Protein is the building block of muscle. Therefore whether you’re an athlete, a parent, or a student, a high protein diet is a must. Proteins are large complex molecules that play a critical role in the body. The body uses protein to build and repair tissues (muscle). Protein is a macronutrient meaning the body needs large amounts of it.

The When’s of Protein

You can maximize the effects you get from protein by simply knowing when to consume it. Here is a list of when to consume protein, ranked in order of importance.

  • Immediately After a Workout your body needs raw materials to rebuild and recover. By consuming protein immediately after exercise, you provide your body with raw materials it needs to recover.
  • In the morning or soon after, consuming protein is vital. After a 7 to 9 hour fast the body is hungry for nutrients. Feed your body! Consuming protein gives your metabolism a boost, which can help with fat loss.
  • Preparing your body for the long overnight fast is key. At night you want to give your body protein to metabolize so that your body has a supply to use.
